Arne Slot confirms he will be new Liverpool manager after Jurgen Klopp departure

He was intered as the new manager for the club starting from the next season.

After weeks of speculation, Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has confirmed that he will be taking over as the new manager of Liverpool Football Club after this season concludes. The confirmation comes as a surprise as no official announcements have yet been made by the Liverpool management regarding the replacement of current manager Jurgen Klopp, who announced his departure from the club in January of this year.

In a recent press conference, Slot stated with confidence, "I can confirm that I will become the trainer there next year." When asked about his impending departure from Feyenoord, Slot further commented, "Until now I was not thinking about this being the build-up to my last match, but that starts coming now."

Slot has had a successful tenure as the manager of the Dutch club, helping them win the Eredivisie league title in 2022-23 and the KNVB Cup this season. He also led the team to the Europa Conference League final in his first season at the club. This recent success, coupled with his prior experience managing in Europe, has led to his recruitment as the new Liverpool manager.

When asked about his decision to join Liverpool, Slot stated: "The feeling grows. I understand that good results help, but it is very nice to feel that people really are thinking it's a pity that I'm leaving."

Feyenoord posted a video on its Twitter account, captioned: "The Arne Slot era is coming to an end. Let's enjoy the last moments," further confirming the impending change.

It is believed that Slot was previously considered for managerial positions at other English clubs, including Crystal Palace and Leeds United, before drawing interest from Tottenham Hotspur at the end of last season. However, he ultimately decided to remain at Feyenoord.

Now, with the opportunity to manage one of the world's most historic and successful football clubs, Slot will look to fill the sizeable shoes of Jurgen Klopp, who joined Liverpool in 2015 and has since built a legacy of his own over nearly 500 games.

It remains to be seen how Slot will manage the squad moving forward, but given his past success and his apparent confidence in his ability to succeed at Liverpool, he may be the right man to help the club move forward and continue to compete for major titles.
