Baldwin Engaged in 'Horseplay' with Firearm Before Deadly 'Rust' Shooting, Prosecutors Say

NEW: Alec Baldwin engaged in 'horseplay' with firearm before deadly 'Rust' shooting, prosecutors say

Alec Baldwin recklessly misused firearms on the set of 'Rust' before the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, prosecutors have claimed.

According to court documents seen by ETonline, the leading man engaged in "horseplay" during firearm training, including one instance when he fired a blank round at a crew member he was using to establish his line of sight.

In another incident, the actor fired a weapon after he had been told that filming of a particular scene had been completed.

Baldwin was rehearsing a scene inside the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on 21 October 2021 when he accidentally shot Hutchins. The film's director, Joel Souza, was also struck in the shoulder.

The Emmy-winning actor is scheduled to go to trial on July 9 in Santa Fe, where he will also face a count of manslaughter. He has long maintained that he did not pull the trigger before the deadly gunfire.

Earlier this year, "Rust" armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in jail.

If convicted, Baldwin faces up to 18 months behind bars.
