This will be the first meeting between the clubs since 2018, when Madrid won the semifinals en route to the championship. They also met in the 2013-14 semifinals, when Madrid won both legs, and in the 2016-17 quarterfinals, when the Spanish club won the first leg 2-1 at home before a 3-2 victory in Germany.
