Belmont Stakes Odds, Horses, Predictions: Expert Picks For Belmont Stakes 2024, Including Surprising Longshot

Belmont Stakes 2024 Horse Racing News and Updates

The awarding-winning trainer Todd Pletcher will take another crack at winning the Belmont Stakes, the final leg of the Triple Crown. Belmont Stakes 2024 will be held on Saturday, June 8, and Pletcher will enter the prestigious race with two horses, Mindframe and Antiquarian, in an attempt to win his fifth career Belmont Stakes title.

Pletcher previously won the Belmont Stakes in 2007 with Rags to Riches, 2013 with Palace Malice, 2017 with Tapwrit, and 2022 with Mo Donegal. This year, Mindframe and Antiquarian face a talented field of horses, including Kentucky Derby runner-up Sierra Leone, who is the favorite at 9-5 odds. Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan is slightly behind at 5-1, while the Preakness winner Seize the Grey is pegged at 8-1.

Mindframe is 7-2 in the odds and is coming off an impressive win in the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby in March. The horse didn't race again until the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby, where he finished in sixth place. Mindframe is a three-year-old colt that Pletcher believes has improved since the Derby and is coming off a promising workout at Saratoga.

"I think from the Derby to now, he's really come on," Pletcher said. "He's grown and matured and he's moved forward. I think it's a good spot for him."

As for Antiquarian, he is a longshot at 12-1 but has a chance to become the ninth horse since the 1950s to win both the Peter Pan Stakes and the Belmont Stakes. The Belmont Stakes will be run at the shorter distance of 1 1/8 miles this year, which could benefit Antiquarian after his win at the same distance last month at the Peter Pan Stakes.

Throughout his career, Pletcher has been known as a master at getting horses ready for specific races, and this time won't be any different. Here is how he addressed the shorter distance for the Belmont Stakes 2024:

"I don't think it's a negative at all," he said. "I think it's a positive. It's actually a really good thing for both horses."

Belmont Stakes Expert Picks: SportsLine's Jody Demling Has Been Perfect on Belmont Stakes Pick 4 of the Last 6 Years

Before you make any bets on the 2024 Belmont Stakes, you should see the horse racing predictions and futures picks from SportsLine's elite horse racing analyst Jody Demling.

A fixture in the horse racing world, Demling has been writing about, talking about, and betting on races for years. He enters the 2024 Belmont Stakes after nailing the winner of the Belmont Stakes four of the last six years, including an exacta in 2022 with Mo Donegal and Nest. Demling also called Flightline's win at the Breeders' Cup Classic in November of that year.

Demling is at his best in the biggest horse races in the world, especially when it comes to the Triple Crown races. In fact, he has hit 11 of the last 16 Derby-Oaks doubles at Churchill Downs, and this year nailed the exacta at the Kentucky Derby with extortionist (winner) and Zoff (runner-up). He's also called 10 of the last 20 Preakness winners, including nailing his Preakness winner, exacta, trifecta, and superfecta picks in 2023 and then the trifecta again in 2024. Anyone who has followed him has hit it big.

Now, with the 2024 Belmont Stakes approaching, Demling is sharing his picks and predictions over at SportsLine. Go here to see them.

One of Demling's surprising picks is Antiquarian, even though the horse is a longshot at 12-1. Antiquarian will try to become the ninth colt since the 1950s to win the Peter Pan Stakes and Belmont Stakes. The Belmont Stakes will be run at a shorter distance this year, which could benefit Antiquarian after his win on a 1 1/8-mile track last month.

Antiquarian also has two strong Belmont Stakes connections in Pletcher and jockey John Velazquez. The award-winning trainer and jockey have teamed up in the past and won the Belmont Stakes together with Rags to Riches in 2007. Pletcher most recently won the Belmont with Mo Donegal in 2022, while Velazquez last won while riding Union Rags in 2012.

Demling also is especially high on an underdog who will be "right there" at the end. Demling is sharing which horse it is, and is revealing his surprising prediction for Preakness Stakes winner Seize the Grey, along with his entire projected Belmont Stakes leaderboard, over at SportsLine.
