Biden Forms 'Working Group' with Chinese Communist Party to Combat Fentanyl Crisis

The Biden administration has not formed a "working group" with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to combat the global narcotics and fentanyl crisis. Instead, several U.S. agencies, including the State Department, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice, and Department of the Treasury, will work with Beijing to counter the global production and trafficking of narcotics, specifically fentanyl.

China is a major source of fentanyl precursors shipped into Mexico, where they are transformed into a more potent drug and subsequently trafficked into the U.S., claiming many American lives annually. Fentanyl is highly addictive and 100 times more potent than morphine. Consequently, the CDC reported that fentanyl claimed over 105,000 lives in the U.S. between February 2022 and January 2023.

In November 2023, Chinese President Xi Jinping promised President Joe Biden that he would initiate efforts to reduce the manufacture of fentanyl within China's borders. However, Beijing has not taken any concrete steps to reduce fentanyl production and continues to be the primary source of fentanyl precursors worldwide.

The State Department did not respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation's request for comment.
