Brit watch: who is next in line to win in F1

The last few years has seen a slew of promising young talent emerge from the British racing scene, finding their way onto the Formula 1 grid. The likes of Lando Norris, George Russell, and Lewis Hamilton have all gone on to achieve success in the sport. As the future of British talent in F1 is looked at, here are five who could potentially become stars of the future:

  1. Zak O'Sullivan (19) O'Sullivan is one of the most promising teenagers in British motorsport, having joined the Williams Driver Academy in 2022. He finished second in the 2022 FIA Formula 3 season and also got his first F1 experience with Williams, driving in a practice session at the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He made his Formula 2 debut this year, racing for ART.
  2. Ollie Bearman (19) Bearman is another young Brit who caught Ferrari's eye, joining the FDA in 2021 after winning the Italian and ADAC Formula 4 championships. He was called up to sub in for the unwell Carlos Sainz in the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. He currently competes in Formula 2 with Prema.
  3. Freddie Slater (15) At just 15 years old, Slater is arguably the youngest prospect on this list. He is managed by the same team as Lando Norris and has carved a name for himself in junior racing. He won the 2023 Ginetta Junior Championship and also claimed the UAE Formula 4 Championship. He is currently racing in the Italian Formula 4 championship with Prema.
  4. Luke Browning (22) Browning is another promising young driver who has had a meandering career due to funding issues. He started his car-racing career in 2018, just three years after Norris. He won the British Formula 4 championship in 2020 and GB3 in 2022, before winning the Macau GP in 2023. He currently competes in the FIA Formula 3 championship with Hitech GP.
  5. Arvid Lindblad (16) Lindblad is a Brit who counts support from Red Bull and made a strong impression with victory on his Formula 3 debut in Bahrain this year. He joined the Red Bull Junior Team in 2022 and won the non-championship Macau Formula 4 race in 2023. He made the step up to Formula 3 this season, racing for Prema Powerteam.

These five Brits are ones to watch as they look to follow in the footsteps of Norris, Hamilton, and Russell.
