Cardinals Chat: Spring Questions and Answers

Question: If the Cardinals endure another sub .500 season where the team is out of the race by mid-September, do you anticipate any transformative changes within the roster and/or the organization?

Answer: It's really hard to say at this point. I think the Cardinals are aware that they need to do something to generate more excitement and improve the team. I don't know if that will be necessarily through trades or free agent signings, but I think they realize they need to do something to shake things up.

Question: If Crawford and Carp have similar slash lines and Mo needs a 26-man roster spot who gets DFA'd?

Answer: I think it would depend on where the need is. If it's a bullpen spot, it would probably be Corey Knebel or Luis Garcia. If it's an infielder, it would probably be Dejong or Edman. If it's an outfielder, it would probably be Justin Williams or Juan Yepez. It also depends on how the players are performing at the time.

Question: Isn't Carlson's status quo working?

Answer: I don't think so. He's put in a lot of work this offseason and is having a great spring. I don't think you can call that status quo.

Question: Do any of you know why Yadi has been a no-show at Spring Training?

Answer: He has elected to remain in Puerto Rico with his family and work with his son. He was expected to arrive at some point toward the middle or end of camp, but no word yet.

Question: Follow up/rebuttle on Carlson and not wanting to switch to being a single-handed hitter: Is the status quo working?

Answer: I think the work he's done this offseason has not been status quo. He's worked hard to try and improve his game and has had a great spring so far.
