As of June 4th, 2024, my portfolio value stands at $256,038.65. Since the last income report on May 3rd, the portfolio has increased in value by $2,855.10 (+1.15%).

Since the beginning of the year, the portfolio has increased in value by $15,744.28 (+6.35%).

When to Sell Stocks

One of the most difficult questions for any investor is knowing when to sell a stock. There are many reasons why an investor may choose to sell, such as:

  1. When the investment thesis no longer matches the financial metrics (e.g., the company unexpectedly changes its business model or strategy)
  2. When there are no dividend increases or the company cuts its dividend
  3. When a position becomes overweight in the portfolio (sector/stock weight)

In May, I sold my position in Magna International (MG.TO) for these reasons. While I still like my investment thesis for Magna, the company has been struggling with earnings and dividend growth. As a result, I sold my shares and bought 47 shares of Toromont Industries (TIH.TO) as a replacement.
