NCAA Tournament: Complete guide to Friday's first-round games, schedule, tips and more

Hey bracketologists, Thursday's NCAA Tournament action has ushered in the madness of March and the first round of games already produced a few upsets. That means Friday's schedule is packed with can't-miss matchups, and a few heavyweights are waiting in the wings. Before you switch on the TV and start filling out those brackets, here's what you need to know about Friday's schedule:

Who's Playing?

Three of the four No. 1 seeds begin their tournament campaigns on Friday, and all of the top teams are playing in their respective regions' host cities. Top-seeded UConn begins the day in Brooklyn, No. 1 Purdue waits in Indianapolis, and Houston will hope to bounce back from a blowout loss in the Big 12 Tournament when it takes on Longwood in Memphis.

It's Not Just the Top Seeds Playing

A few familiar faces from the 2023 Final Four are also in action on day two of the main tournament draw. 2023 national runner-up San Diego State is joined by fellow East Regional teams FAU and Marquette in playing their first-round games. All three programs are in the same quadrant of the bracket, meaning the potential for a rematch of last year's final is very much alive and well if all three advance to the Elite Eight.

Marquette, a No. 2 seed, is also dealing with injuries that could affect its depth in the tournament. Star guard Tyler Kolek has missed the Golden Eagles' last six games with an oblique injury and they'll be hoping he can make a return against Western Kentucky on Friday. Shaka Smart told reporters this week that Kolek has been participating in full-court, five-on-five drills, but his form and availability against the Hilltoppers remain a question.

Bracket Busters

A couple of potential bracket busters are in action on Friday, including No. 11 New Mexico against No. 6 Clemson and No. 10 Colorado against No. 7 Florida. The Lobos and Buffaloes are hoping to replicate Wednesday's three upsets by No. 11 seeds and add a little extra madness to the first round.
