PGA Championship leaderboard recap: Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele co-leaders

It was a volatile Saturday at the 2024 PGA Championship, with the leaderboard changing after nearly every hole. After Scottie Scheffler's surprising 73, which saw him fall out of contention, a new set of players emerged at the top of the leaderboard.

Among them are two familiar faces who have been here before, and they hold the joint lead heading into the final round. Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele are both tied at 15 under after flawless 3-under 67s on a windy day that tested the field.

Just behind them is a trio of players at 12 under, including Justin Rose, Robert MacIntyre, and Shane Lowry, who shot the round of the day with an 8-under 62.

With such a crowded leaderboard, Sunday's round is sure to be a thriller. Here's how the players stack up in terms of odds to win, from most to least likely:

  1. Collin Morikawa (-15) Odds: +240
  2. Xander Schauffele (-15) Odds: +260
  3. Bryson DeChambeau (-13) Odds: +600
  4. Viktor Hovland (-13) Odds: +700
  5. Sahith Theegala (-14) Odds: +650
  6. Shane Lowry (-13) Odds: +1200
  7. Justin Thomas (-10) Odds: +6000
  8. Justin Rose (-12) Odds: +3500
  9. Robert MacIntyre (-12) Odds: +3500

While Morikawa and Schauffele co-lead the pack, odds suggest that DeChambeau is the most likely to win out of the three. Known for his impressive drives, DeChambeau is fifth in driving distance this week and has thrived in a similar situation at the 2020 U.S. Open.

Despite his proximity to the lead, Morikawa is still a strong bet to win. He is the second-worst putter of those in the top eight, but he has been stellar in driving accuracy and has a great short game.

Meanwhile, Schauffele has a better track record in closing out leads and tends to thrive when tied with a similarly talented player.

Lowry and Rose find themselves in contention once again, after a 62 and a 60 respectively. They likely won't be able to repeat those rounds, but with such a crowded leaderboard, any shot could win it all.

Thomas, Theegala, and MacIntyre round out the list of contenders, all sitting at 10 under or 12 under. While they will need some help from those ahead of them to win, they also have the skill to leapfrog several spots and claim the title.

It will be a tense final round, with a lot of potential outcomes and a crowded leaderboard as a backdrop. Whatever happens, fans are in for a treat as the PGA Championship continues to deliver in a big way.
