Prime Video Orders 'Young Sherlock' Series With Guy Ritchie Directing and Executive Producing

Prime Video has commissioned Young Sherlock, an eight-episode series that will serve as an origin story for the world's most renowned detective. The series is being produced by Inspirational Entertainment and Motive Pictures, with Guy Ritchie attached to direct and executive produce.

The titular role will be played by Hero Fiennes Tiffin, who featured in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and The Woman King. Physical production on the series is being handled by Motive Pictures.

Matthew Parkhill will serve as writer and showrunner, while Ivan Atkinson, Simon Kelton, Simon Maxwell, Dhana Gilbert, Colin Wilson, Marc Resteghini, and Harriet Creelman will act as executive producers. Parkhill is known for Deep State and Rogue, while Gilbert won an Emmy for her work on Boardwalk Empire. Aside from Young Sherlock, Resteghini is also overseeing an animated adaptation of the Wings of Fire book series.

Of the series, Ritchie said: "In Young Sherlock we're going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they've never imagined before. We're going to crack open this enigmatic character and learn how he becomes the genius we all love."

The series is inspired by Andy Lane's Young Sherlock Holmes book series, with Andrew Lane set to join the production as an executive producer. While there is no release date yet, Young Sherlock will premiere exclusively on Prime Video, which is available in more than 240 countries and territories.

Prime Video recently made headlines with the acquisition of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series, as well as the Jimmy Savile documentary Ted and Rose.
