Sophie Kinsella reveals she has undergone chemotherapy for brain cancer

Sophie Kinsella, the bestselling British author behind the Shopaholic series, revealed on Instagram that she has been undergoing chemotherapy for an aggressive form of brain cancer.

The announcement comes after the author, who goes by Madeleine Sophie Wickham, kept her health struggle private over the past year. She was diagnosed with glioblastoma at the end of 2022.

Kinsella expressed her gratitude to her family, friends, and medical practitioners for their support and care. She also extended her well-wishes to those suffering from cancer and their supporters.

The author noted that despite the challenges she faces, she is feeling well and is grateful for the positive response to her latest novel, The Burnout, which was released in October 2023.

Brain cancer is a significant health concern, and it is estimated that more than 1,900 people were diagnosed with the condition in Australia alone last year. Symptoms often include headaches, seizures, weakness or paralysis, loss of balance, nausea, and vomiting.

Currently, there is no national screening program for the disease in Australia. Kinsella asked for privacy when she first learned of her diagnosis so that her children could process the news in private.
