This Weekend's Movie Releases: Kung Fu Panda 4, Imaginary, and More

The biggest studio release of this weekend is the long-awaited fourth installment of the Kung Fu Panda series, this time starring Bryan Cranston as the main character, Po. Directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, the film sees Po searching for clues about his backstory and discovering secrets of the pandas.

The biggest indie release of the weekend is Imaginary, a horror film directed by Jeff Wadlow. The film follows a woman who returns to her childhood home to discover that the imaginary friend she left behind is real and still very much alive, albeit unhappy that she abandoned him.

Here are some other films to look out for this weekend:

Love Lies Bleeding: A gym manager falls for a bodybuilder who is passing through town on her way to a competition in Las Vegas; the film is written and directed by Rose Glass.

Glitter and Doom: A free-spirited circus performer falls for a struggling musician during a summer of romance, camping, and conversations that last until the dawn of the morning. The film is set to the music of the Indigo Girls.

Ricky Stanicky: Three childhood best friends invent an imaginary friend to get themselves out of trouble, but continue to use him as an alibi for their immature behavior twenty years later. The film is directed by Peter Farrelly and stars Zac Efron, John Cena, and Andrew Santino.

First Time Female Director: Follows a female director at a local theater in Glendale, California, who struggles to fill the shoes of her male predecessor, putting her Southern rural drama at risk. The film is writer, director, and star Chelsea Peretti's directorial debut.

Damsel: A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince but discovers that the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt; the film is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnado and stars Millie Bobby Brown, Ray Winstone, and Nick Robinson.

Space: The Longest Goodbye: Follows astronauts training for a Mars mission who work with a NASA psychologist to prepare for the isolation of space.

Night Shift: A woman begins to suspect that the remote motel she's working her first night shift at is haunted.

American Dreamer: Phil is a dreamer who hates that most of his dreams don't come true; the film is directed by Paul Dektor and stars Peter Dinklage, Danny Pudi, Shirley MacLaine, and Matt Dillon.

The Piper: A composer is tasked with finishing her late mentor's concerto, only to discover that playing the music summons deadly consequences and awakens an evil that has been sleeping for years.
